Interesting Features for PWN 4/25/2017

Dear PWN Members,

Here are some interesting articles we came across:

1. Our very own Courtney Miller was interviewed by the local evening news:
http://www.wpbf.com/article/can-a-drug-erase-selective-memories-to-help-addicts/9226019

And here are a few professional opportunities:

1. The BRAINS Program: To encourage greater diversity within neuroscience-related fields, in 2011 we created BRAINS: Broadening the Representation of Academic Investigators in NeuroScience, a national program to accelerate and improve the career advancement of neuroscience postdoctoral researchers and assistant professors from underrepresented groups. The program, funded by a R25 grant from NIH's National Institute for Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), creates unique, life-transforming experiences for participants. The BRAINS program goal is to increase engagement and retention of academic early-career neuroscientists from underrepresented groups by reducing isolation, providing tips, tools, and skills development to prepare for tenure track success, and increasing career self-efficacy. To achieve this goal, the program offers two participant pathways: BRAINS Fellows and BRAINS Affiliates. Here is a link for more info: http://depts.washington.edu/brains/program.html

2. The Day Lab at UAB is looking for a lab manager:

Interesting Features for PWN 4/6/2017

Hi everyone,

Here is a tenure-track opportunity at OHSU and some exciting articles:

Tenure-Track Opportunity at OHSU:

The Department of Behavioral Neuroscience at Oregon Health & Science University seeks tenure-track faculty candidates in systems, computational, or translational neuroscience.
Applications are encouraged from individuals using advanced imaging or electrophysiological methods to study the dynamic properties of behaviorally relevant circuits in animals or humans as they relate to psychopathology.
The Department of Behavioral Neuroscience is a highly collaborative department, with collaborations among faculty within the department and between department faculty and the broader neuroscience community at OHSU, which includes the Vollum Institute for Advanced Biomedical Research, the Jungers Center for Neurosciences Research, the Oregon National Primate Research Center, and the VA Portland Health Care System.
We seek outstanding applicants who have a Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. who are working to complete post-doctoral training or are in early stages of an independent position, but applications from all ranks will be considered. Salary and start-up funds will be commensurate with experience.
Review of applications will begin May 15th, 2017.
OHSU places a high priority on cultural diversity; thus, we seek candidates with a demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disabled and ethnic backgrounds of OHSU’s students and employees.
