Dear PWN Members,

Here Are Some Interesting Articles:

1. This article is from one of our members, Nicte Mejia: Op-Ed: In Tackling #MeToo, Don't Ignore Micro-Insults That Harm Women's Careers:

Nicte posits an interesting question: "is power really the key to stopping abuses of power?" Something to think about!

2. U.S. Postdocs Face Steep Challenges When Starting Families:

3. The One Thing You Need To Do To Shut Down Imposter Syndrome:

And Some Professional Opportunities:

1. Postdoctoral position available at McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School

A postdoctoral position is available immediately in the Neurobiology of Motivated Behavior Laboratory (NMBL) at McLean Hospital, Harvard Medical School. This position is funded to investigate the regulation and role of reward circuit glutamatergic signaling in prescription opioid addiction using rodent (rat) models.

The ideal candidate will be a recent Ph.D. graduate with a relevant background in Neuroscience as well as rodent behavior and stereotaxic surgery. Candidates who have a successful track record of procuring fellowships will be given priority. The candidate will be proposed for academic appointment as a Research Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. The initial appointment will be for two years with the possibility of extension. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications, laboratory experience, and institutional guidelines.

Please send application materials (CV and a brief summary of career goals and objectives) and a list of three professional references to:

Elena Chartoff, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Neuroscience
Harvard Medical School
Director, Neurobiology of Motivated Behavior Laboratory
McLean Hospital

Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

2. Postdoctoral Fellowship at Emory University: In vivo electrophysiology of memory:

Applications are invited for an NIH-funded postdoctoral position to study amygdala-hippocampus interactions in memory.  The project utilizes in vivo electrophysiology, neural stimulation (electrical and optogenetic), and intracranial drug infusions in rats to ask how activation of the amygdala can prioritize memory consolidation in the hippocampus.  The position is available now.  The ideal applicant will have a Ph.D. in neuroscience or a related discipline and will have relevant research experience in at least one of the above techniques as evidenced by publications.  Proficiency in neural data analysis is also a plus.  In addition to possessing technical skills, the successful applicant will engage intellectually with advancing the project.  Salary will be based on NIH pay scales.  Interested applicants should email Dr. Joseph Manns at jmanns@emory.edu.   Please include a CV and cover letter that briefly describes your research experience and future research interests.  More information can be found on the laboratory's website (psychology.emory.edu/labs/manns).
